Mountain Gorillas

Mountain gorillas are the largest living primates known as one of the two subspecies of the eastern gorilla. Mountain gorillas are characterized by the thicker and longer fur than that of other gorilla species which enables them to live in colder temperatures. They have a distinctive black coat, broad chest, and an impressive sagittal crest on their forehead. Adult males, or silverbacks, possess a silver-colored back, hence their name.

It is larger and more robust than bonobo weighing 40-70kg for males and 27-50 kg for females.

Best Time to Visit
The dry seasons from June to September and December to February are considered the best times for primate trekking in Rwanda. This is because the trails are more accessible, and the weather is generally favorable for forest hikes.
